Our sympathies are with you and your family at this time. Uncle Jerome will be greatly missed. He always made time for his nieces and nephews, even if it was to tease and play tricks. He will be also be remembered for the hours spent playing cards at Grandma's when he would come back to ND to visit. Uncle Jerome was very competitive when he played cards. We wish we could be there for you. Remember you have a special angel watching over you.

I was deeply saddened to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Uncle Jerome holds a special place in my heart. I cherish the moments I spent with him and will hold on to those memories always. I feel so fortunate I was able to get to know him better and make new memories through visits these past years. Even as an adult, the stories and memories he shared never grew old. His positive outlook and steadfast love for family and friends were admirable. I wish I could be there for Jerome’s service but work/weather will not make it possible. May you take comfort in knowing an angel is watching over you.
"God saw him getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around him and whispered 'come to me.' With tearful eyes you watched him, and saw him pass away. Although you loved him dearly, you could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best."

273 He was a drinker.
During the depression, the family had no money. Everyone was home. Took a shotgun into the basement and after a while he shot the gun.
No one wanted to go see what happened, but Harold being the oldest, went to find his father sitting in a chair laughing.
Government rations were often eaten by Frank - no sharing.
Maureen walked by him when she was age 9 or so (living in Geneseo, IL) and she walked past him with her mother - after they walked by, she told her, by the way, that was your grandpa. Maureen never met him other than that.

289 I (Elizabeth Maureen McCree Jones) was at Grandma's house with Mom (Maureen Lucille Keag McCree) cleaning for either her return to do hospice or her not returning and selling the trailer. Dad (Herbert Loius McCree) called on the phone. I answered. He said "It's over - she is gone". It was nearly too much for me to hear the tears in my Father's voice. That was it. Grandma has passed away. SLAUGHTER, Marjorie Cathleen (Kathleen) (I107)

290 If he could speak to us today, William Ligon II might describe his life as follows.
I was born in present-day Chesterfield County about 1682. My mother was Mary Tanner and my father, William Ligon who died when I was about 7 years of age. In 1694 my uncle Edward Haskins gave me a cow named Fortune that was at Mother’s plantation called “Powells.”
I married Elizabeth Batte before 1704 when her grandparents, Henry and Ann Lound, gave us 258 acres of land. We were the parents of three: Sarah, William, and Joseph Ligon.
In 1735-7 I assembled 900 acres on Sandy Creek in that part of Amelia County that became Prince Edward in 1754. We gave 600 acres to our son William, and the remaining 300 acres eventually went to Henry Ligon who married our daughter, Sarah.
In 1745 Elizabeth and I sold our 130 acres at “Neck of Land,” “reserving thirty feet square where the burying place is” and settled on 650 acres William gave us along Sandy Creek.
I prepared my will in Prince Edward County 22 October 1759, but was living with William in Amelia County when I died because they recorded my will there 27 September 1764. At my death I owned 8 slaves worth £372 and 18 head of black cattle valued at £35. Since I disposed of most of what I owned before moving in with William, the rest of my personal property amounted to only about £29.
