She spent her girlhood in Illinois and was educated inthe public schools of that state. She came with her family to Sullycounty, South Dakota, on her seventeenth birthday.She was united in marriage with Clark L. Howard on December 25,1889. To this union two sons were born: Harold Lewis, who died in earlychildhood, and Clifford L., who resides at Rapid City, South Dakota. Sheunited at a early age with the Baptist church.Her husband passed away on August 12, 1896, and in the year 1898 shemoved to Onida to engage in dressmaking. She was appointed postmistressof Onida, December 2, 1902, and remained in that office until February,1915. She worked in various offices at the court house over a period ofseveral years, and was city assessor of Onida seven years. She devoted agreat deal of her time to Red Cross work during World War I.Ancestry.com 4-14-06 Walker, of Beasely, Texas, and Lulu G.Boyles of Greycliff, Montana.Burial rites were conducted Thursday forenoon at the local cemetery,with Rev. Edwin F. Walter officiating. Bill Robinson sang two solos,"Abide With Me" and "Lead Kindly Light." Pallbearers were Oscar Hedman,Guy Rumrill, Frank Johnson, W. B. Spears, Chas. Glessner and MaynardKnox. A group of sorrowing friends and neighbors gathered with therelatives at the grave side for the brief ceremonies. Out-of-townrelatives besides Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Howard and family, who were presentincluded Mr. and Mrs. Leon Howard and Mrs. Leona Furlow and daughter, ofBlunt; Mrs. Franklin Hyde and Mrs. Fern Spencer, of Pierre; Mrs. WalterSpencer, of Gettysburg, and numerous nieces and nephews. Two sisters,Mrs. Minnie H. Walker, of Beasley, Texas and Mrs. Lulu Boyles ofGreycliff, Montana, were unable to be present.A brief scripture reading and prayer service was held at the home ofMrs. Bertha Haverly previous to the grave side ceremonies.}
