Marcia Jane Kruse
Birth: Dec. 19, 1953 Moline Rock Island County Illinois, USA
Death: Aug. 13, 2009 Hampton Rock Island County Illinois, USA
Marcia Kruse, 55, of Hampton, passed away very unexpectedly at home Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, after a courageous battle with lung cancer, among a myriad of other medical problems she struggled with most of her life. She is now in Heaven, joining her loving mother, Jane Kruse, who passed away just two short weeks ago. They spent most of their lives together, supporting each other, and now will be with each other for eternal life.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug.19, at 10 a.m. at Van Hoe, with burial alongside her mother in Hampton City Cemetery.
Marcia Jane Kruse was born to Warren and Jane Kruse on Dec. 19, 1953, in Moline. During her youth, she had a pet horse named Thunder. She loved to ride and take care of him even though he threw her off, causing her a lifelong injury. She also loved to collect spoons from every place the family visited on summer vacations. Years later, she started collecting Noah's Ark items which eventually filled her room. She was a member of Brownies, 4-H, Rainbow Girls and attended Hampton Methodist Church often for services and Sunday school.
Marcia graduated from United Township High School in East Moline in 1972. On Jan. 27, 1982, she gave birth to a beautiful daughter, Amanda Renee. She married Howard Roth on July 17, 1982. Unfortunately, the marriage was short-lived, but Marcia worked hard as a single mother to raise her daughter. Living in Hampton, East Moline and Rapids City, she lived relatively close to her mother, who was willing and able to help raise and care for her child. Eventually, it became much easier and more economical to move back in with her mother in Hampton.
Marcia worked as a CNA at Oak Glen Nursing Home, police dispatcher in LeClaire, Scott County jailer, security screener at Quad City International Airport, and attendant at Illiniwek Park near Hampton. But as time passed, Marcia suffered from a constantly growing list of medical problems and was forced to stop working at a relatively young age.
Marcia liked to sing, and she sang for a short time in the local woman's barbershop chorus, the Multi-Chords, with her mother, Jane. One of Marcia's favorite pastimes was frequently shopping in all the local Goodwill stores in search of a great find and buying things, usually for other members of her family. She also loved to play the lottery, bingo and go to the gambling boats. She did have her lucky moment in 1997 when she won a chance to appear on the Illinois State Lottery TV show "Illinois Instant Riches," and she took advantage of it by winning $30,000!
But her favorite pastime was spending time with her mother, daughter and grandchildren, whether just together at home or going someplace. After her daughter moved out to live on her own, Marcia remained living with her mother, keeping each other company and helping each other when problems arose.
Her most recent music interests were in her granddaughter, Adrienne Jane Evans, AJ for short, who also loves singing. Luckily, Marcia was able to see AJ in the feature role of Annie in the "Annie Junior" musical held at Center 4 Living in Rock Island last April.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Jane Kruse and Warren Kruse; and her sister-in-law, Oksana Kruse. Surviving family members include her brothers, Bob and Bill (Ruth) Kruse, Hampton, Rick Kruse, Aurora, Colo.; daughter, Amanda (Doug) Ross, Moline; grandchildren AJ Evans, Kameren and Lennon Ross, Moline; nephews, Seth Kruse, Silvis and Sean (Gretchen) Kruse; and great-nephew, Kolton Kruse, Port Byron.
