  	ROCK ISLAND – Former Rockbridge resident Howard Eugene "Gene" Roth, 38, died unexpectedly at 5:41 a.m. Friday, April 26, 1991 at the Franciscan Medical Center in Rock Island. Born in Carrollton on September 29, 1952, he was the son of Holland and Vera (Hennel) Roth of Rockbridge. He married Marcia Kruse in 1982 and had one child, Amanda, before being divorced later that year. He married the former Kathleen Schannell on October 29, 1988 in Milan and she survives. In addition to his wife and parents, surviving are two daughters, Amanda Roth of Rock Island and Heather Roth of Polacca, Ariz.: a son, Jason Roth of Hannibal, Mo.; two stepsons, Brian and Brad Colley, both of Moline; a step-grandson; four sisters, Patricia Roberts of Scott Air Force, Belleville, Myra Siemer of Greenfield, Angela Scott of Rockbridge and Janis Roth of Jacksonville; and four brothers, Gregory Roth of Wichita Falls, Texas, Paul Roth of Carrollton, Dennis Roth of New Braunfels, Texas and Kevin Roth of Hondo, Texas. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Wheelan Funeral Home in Rock Island. Visitation continues from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Shields Memorial Home in Greenfield with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. A funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Greenfield with the Rev. Edward Groesch as celebrant. Burial is Oak Wood Cemetery in Greenfield. Memorials may be made to the family, in care of the Shields Memorial Home or Farmer State Bank, both of Greenfield.
