The Moore`s came from near Belfast, Ireland and were Irish Protestant.
Jameswas known as `Long Jim` because he had a cousin James known as `Short Jim`. He and his brother John came to America as single men, served in the Civil War. They served in the Civil War in Company A, 9th Illinois Cavalry. John was captured while on the Sherman march. After the war, he and James returned to Ireland to find a wife because they decided the pure Irish girls looked better. The four of them returned to America.

Family: James Moore Jr, Sarah (wife), Mary C., Margaret, William R., Hugh, Henry, Joseph L.
James and Sarah lived on a farm just south of White Oak Church for ten years before moving to the home `Moore Place.` After James died, Sarah remained on the farm until 1918. After her sons joined the Armed Forces during WWI, Sarah moved to What Cheer, Iowa, where she resided until her death.
He died of TB at the age of 67.
The 1900 US Census has: b. Mar 1837. However, the tombstone reads: d. 22 Oct 1903 Age: 67Y.7M.12D. That would put his birthdate as Mar 1836. (Birthdate of 10 Mar 1936 calculated from tombstone data)
