Came to America in 1876. Returned to Ireland 2 years later and Married Ellen Johnston. Came back to America in 1878 or 1879.
When they came to America, they settled in Alba Township, then later moved to the farm in Atkinson Township. After death of Robert, Ellen and her family lived on the farm for a while, and then moved to 228 East Main St, Genesceo, IL. All the children were married but William, and he lived with her untill he married in 1918.

Last Friday evening about sixty of the friends of John Keag gathered at his home to give him a farewell party. Light refreshments were served and as a token of friendship a beautiful watch chain and charm was presented him. John will soon leave for the west where he will remain this summer.
John Keag of Cornwall Dies
Jaundice is Fatal to Native of Henry County, in Mother’s Home.
Geneseo, Nov. 9 - John Keag, 49, a farmer of Cornwall township, died at 1:30 yesterday afternoon in the home of his mother, Mrs. Ellen Keag, on East Main Street in Geneseo. He was ill of jaundice about a year.
Mr. Keag was born in Alba township, Henry county, Jan. 17, 1883. He was a life resident of the county. During his boyhood he attended the Spring Creek school. In February, 1909, he married Bess Steiner in the Atkinson Congregational church.
Mr. Keag held office as treasure of the Cornwall township farm bureau and clerk of the Dickey school board.
Survivors include the widow: four sons, John, Eugene, Gerald, and Julian: the mother, Mrs. Ellen Keag of Geneseo: three brother, Tom, Andrew and William of Geneseo, and a sister, Mrs. Agnes Schnauffer of Moline. His Father Robert Keag, died in 1900.
Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
John Keag, Cornwall, TWP, Farmer, Dies Tuesday At Residence of His Mother
John Keag, well known farmer and lifelong resident of this community, passed away at 1:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 8, 1932, at the home of his mother, Mrs. Ellen Keag, 228 East Main street at the age of 49 years, 9 months and 21 days. He had been in falling health the past year, suffering from liver trouble and complications.
Mr. Keag was born in Alba township Jan. 178, 1883 and was the oldest son of the late Robert Keag and Ellen Keag. He attended the Spring Creek School, receiving high honors in the his class and later took a commercial course. He was united in marriage, Feb. 5, 1908, to Miss Bess Steiner of Atkinson, the ceremony taking place in the Congregational Church in that place. He followed the occupation of farming and during the past thirteen years has operated the Henry Sand farm in Cornwall township. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Atkinson, was a member of the Atkinson Congregational church and since moving to Cornwall township, attended the Liberty church. He was treasure of Cornwall township farm bureau and clerk of the Dickey School at the time of his death. He was a hard worker, was greatly interested in the welfare of his family. Being only 17 years of age at the time of his father’s death he courageously assumed the responsibility of setting the example for his younger brother and sister to follow, his habits, therefore, were most exemplary.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bess Keag: four sons, John Jr., Gene, Julian, Gerald: the aged mother, Mrs. Ellen Keag: one sister, Mrs. Agnes Schnaufer, of Davenport: three brothers, Thomas, Andrew, and Will of Geneseo.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1 o’clock from the home in Cornwall township, and at 2 o’clock from the Congregational church of Atkinson with the Rev. Jeffrey D. Hoy officiating. Selections will be sung by Will and Alfred Colby, Joel Fosdick and M. S. Farnum. Pallbearers will be Jesse Maranville, Charles Sears, Rollin Farnum, James Irvine, Harold Wildermuth, and Glenn Lewis. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Geneseo.
